General Disclaimer
Neutrois.com is meant to be a primary resource for raising awareness and visibility and providing information and education around Neutrois. In no way should this be taken as the definitive resource of what Neutrois is or isn’t, and should never be used as a measuring stick for validating or invalidating another’s identity.
History of Neutrois.com
The Neutrois.com website (originally called ‘Neutrois Outpost’) has been online since the year 2000. You can access the website as originally published by visiting the Internet Archive at Neutrois Outpost A later 2010 version of neutrois.com can be accessed at Neutrois
The Origin of the Neutrois Symbol Ø
Despite what you may read elsewhere about about people claiming to have ‘invented’ the Ø symbol as recently as 2021, It was first used as symbol to represent Neutrois in 2009. The “What is Gender” forum had a discussion thread Titled “Neutrois Symbol – Suggest your own!”. The Circle (letter o) is the part of the symbol that represents the person/soul (Circle of life). The diagonal slash was taken from the slash in the Null symbol (the number zero with a diagonal slash). The owner of this website was active in the forum discussion and decided to use the Ø on this website in 2009. A partial archive of the relevant thread is available at Re: Neutrois Symbol – Suggest Your Own! The correct Unicode character to use is U+00D8
. Both upper case Ø and lower case ø letters are acceptable depending on individual choice or font being used. (I tend to just copy and paste the text character, makes for an easy life!).
The People Behind the Site
The original neutrois.com (Neutrois Outpost) website was a collaborative effort by members of the What Is Gender forum. The current site is also a collaborative one, with contributions mainly from Micah, who runs genderqueer.me, with the help of others. We are looking for other individuals who would like to contribute, whether you identify as neutrois, genderqueer, non-binary, androgynous, or other. Our mission is to be informative, positive, and non-judgemental. At the end of the day, we are just people trying to make sense of ourselves and the world.
